The Directorate General of Human Settlements has completed the construction of Jatiluhur Regional Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM). On Wednesday (18/12/2024) the Jatiluhur Regional SPAM was ready to operate and will be distributed to 380,000 House Connections (SR), and has been used by 1.9 million people in the DKI Jakarta, Bekasi Regency, Bekasi City, and Karawang Regency areas.

Deputy Minister of Public Works, Diana Kusumastuti explained, after going through a construction period of 35 months, ready-to-drink water from the Jatiluhur I Regional SPAM can be enjoyed by tens of thousands of people.

"I hope that with the operation of the Jatiluhur I Regional SPAM KPBU, it can reduce the use of groundwater in Jakarta so that it can reduce land subsidence and support improved public health and economic growth in the Jabodetabek area," said Diana.

This project was built through a KPBU scheme with an initiative of the initiator (unsolicited) and is able to provide a drinking water supply of up to 4,750 liters/second. The SPAM utilizes raw water from the Jatiluhur Dam in West Java.

The scope of the KPBU Project activities in the Upstream System includes the construction of intakes, Raw Water Transmission Pipes and Bulk Drinking Water Transmission Pipes, 2 (two) Water Treatment Plants (IPA), and the main distribution network to the supply point (offtake). The Bekasi IPA with a capacity of 4,400 lpd will serve 4 (four) Offtakes, namely the Jatibening Offtake, Teluk Buyung Offtake, Sentra Timur Offtake, and Tarumajaya Offtake. While the Cibeet IPA with a capacity of 350 lpd will serve the Karawang Offtake. As for the Downstream System for the DKI Jakarta Region, it will flow from the Sentra Timur Offtake to 2 (two) Reservoirs, namely the Pondok Kopi and Cilincing Distribution Centers (DC). The Cilincing DC Reservoir with a capacity of 20,000 m3 will flow to communities in 7 sub-districts with a total of 15,310 new SR. Meanwhile, the Pondok Kopi DC Reservoir with a capacity of 5,000 m3 will flow to communities in 2 sub-districts with a total of 2,000 new SR.

In line with the Deputy Minister of PU, Acting Director General of Cipta Karya Endra S. Atmawidjaja revealed that one of the objectives of building the Jatiluhur I SPAM is to handle land subsidence or land subsidence in the North Coast area of Jakarta.

"In addition to helping to fulfill access to clean drinking water for the people of Jakarta, of course it is also to reduce groundwater extraction which can hold back the rate of land subsidence," said Endra. (bns/ari).
